I graduated from Drake Law School in May of 2022. I am currently a practicing attorney in Des Moines. What special skills or experience would you bring to the Board? It is very easy to get to know someone through running but being able to connect with each other outside of running will greatly strengthen our club, because we get to know each other on a running level as well as a more personal level. I personally love getting together with other runners to hear about how their running is going, but I’ve also found that I am able to connect with runners on many different levels. I’d also like to focus on the social functions of the club. I believe that once we have a few more committed younger runners, that’ll allow us to continue growing. I have not seen a lot of “younger” runners at most of the strider’s runs, and I think that having those younger runs can be very beneficial to the club. I’d specifically like to focus on growing the membership of younger runners in our community, especially those runners who’ve just graduated from college. I want to focus on growing the membership of Capital Striders, as I have been coming to Capital Strider runs with my dad since I was in high school, and I know that over the past several years membership levels have gone up and down. I’d also like to focus on social functions. I would like to focus on growing the membership of Capital Striders. What area(s) of the club would you focus on as a Board Member? Cari Kenzie, founder, and David Tracy, co-founder, will both speak on how the foundation is empowering humanity to navigate the experience of trauma to cultivate community and generational healing. We also create the infrastructure for people who have undergone trauma to find community and support systems throughout our programs, networks, and produced materials. These professionals rally together for a common goal: to help humanity find freedom and fullness of life. The Ripples of Change Foundation was created with the intention of forming a community at large of professionals in the coaching, wellness, consulting, and other supporting arenas. Her story is sure to be fascinating for runners and inspirational for all! She now counsels others on how to recover following a traumatic event or multiple setbacks. She knew she needed a change and that she would have to make that change for herself. She stayed sick for years, spiraling deeper and deeper into a feeling of powerlessness. Her doctors diagnosed her with severe PTSD, depression, and multiple chronic illnesses. She went from running miles and a multi-million dollar business to barely being able to make it up a flight of stairs. But when the bombs went off, her life changed forever. In 2013, when she passed the finish line of the Boston Marathon, she was a successful CEO of a multi-million dollar company.
